John Lambert Returns to Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Post

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo Director of Athletics Danny White has announced that John Lambert will return to his marketing roots as Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, a role he held from 1999-2007. Since 2007, Lambert served as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development.

His area of supervision will include ticket sales and operations, marketing and promotions, media relations, communications, corporate sales, branding, licensing, event operations, community relations and campus awareness.

“I feel fortunate that we had the opportunity to move John back to External Affairs,” White said. “He did a great job overseeing our development efforts, but with his nationally-recognized track record in promotions and marketing it’s a natural choice for him to fill this leadership position in our organization. I know our athletic department will benefit greatly.”

In 2001, in his first stint with External Affairs, Lambert was honored by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators as Division I-A Marketer of the Year. He was responsible for record crowds at both UB Stadium and Alumni Arena.

“I’m excited about where we can take UB Athletics and our brand,” Lambert said. “Our team is committed to creating a vibrant college athletic experience to the fans of Western New York. I would like to thank Danny for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to this expanded role in our organization.”

Lambert had a very successful run as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development. During his tenure, he developed the Bulls Legacy Program in support of endowed scholarships within Athletics. Since its inception, this program has secured an additional $ 1,000,000 to the overall athletics endowment.

In addition to growing the athletics fund drive campaign, 2010, Lambert saw recent completed Alumni Arena capital projects include the Michael F. Rielly Training Center and the Edward L. Wright Practice Facility. In 2011, the Brinkworth/McNally Football Alumni Team Meeting room was completed along with the dedication of the Ed Michael Wrestling Complex, a comprehensive $350,000 rehab to the existing wrestling room in Alumni Arena.

In the spring of 2012, Lambert’s team secured a transformational $1,000,000 gift from the Murchie Family to name the football center at UB Stadium the Murchie Family Football Center. The center scheduled for completion at the end of 2012 will include other capital renovations to the football center at UB Stadium.

“John is very clearly a valuable asset for UB Athletics,” White said. “I could not be more excited about the team we are assembling to capture the enormous potential of this place.”
