Starakiewicz And Ward Named Athletes Of The Week

Wojciech Starakiewicz (Warsaw, Poland/Miguel de Cervantes) of the men's tennis team went 3-0 in UB's sweep of Chicago State and Northern Illinois. Starakiewicz earned the clinching singles point in UB's 5-2 win at Northern Illinois as he defeated Axel Lagerlof in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. He also combined with Travis Zappia for two doubles victories. For the season, the senior is 16-10 in singles and 14-11 in doubles.

Alyssa Ward (Cameron Park, CA/Ponderosa) of the softball team batted .625 for the week as the Bulls went 4-1. Ward had 10 hits, including hitting for the first cycle in UB's Division I history in the Bulls' victory over Canisius.  She drove in six runs against the Griffins and continued her offensive dominance into the weekend.  In all, Ward finished with three doubles, two triples and a home run. She finished with a slugging percentage of 1.250 and had 20 total bases on the week.
